Flailblog

New sketchbook drawings...this one is my favorite:

I've hardly been drawing at all lately, which is really weird for me. I find doodling as fun and relaxing as taking a long bath or having a good nap, so I feel weird and bad when I go a long time without drawing.

Bzzt bzzt bzzt.
I draw sloppily when I am in a strange mood

The weird thing is, I felt happier finally getting some drawings done, but at the same time I feel bad because I want to do less sketchbook drawings and more productive drawings- like on my comics and stuff. Hopefully if I continue drawing and posting less frequently, it'll be because I'm spending more time doing actual projects.

RAR RAR I was mad and tired when I drew this:

Something I'll never finish- drawings of Genie, a really beautiful little girl with a terrible history. She's one of the more well-known "feral children." Her story is interesting, but don't look her up unless you can handle a really tragic story. I was going to try to render these with pencil but I kept getting sad trying to work on it.

These are happier! Bzzt bzzt

Lastly, some snippets of drawings from secret projects.

I'll post the real things eventually. Happy to you! (^o^)/

more pink things

Pink pink pink notecard people

I drew many small pink girls last weekend. Drawing like this, all tiny and without thinking ahead, is fun. Normally I draw really fast and loose and doing this is new and weird.

Now it's time for ANNOUNCEMENTS!

Starting tonight, a new Skadi 5-parter is up on Dumm Comics. It's different from the last one we did with the cannibals...it's a lot stupider! I like it, and I hope you will too.

Another thing! I think I'd like to come out every now and then and add new prints to my Etsy store. I might compile all those star trek post-its from a while ago and make one. However, ideas would be appreciated! If I've drawn something that you think might look nice as a print, let me know! :)

One more!! My best girlfriend and fellow artist Christine has new prints, giclees, and original art on her Etsy. Her paintings have a level of spookiness on top of elegance that I can't ever imitate. Check it out!

OH WAIT there's one more thing...the second season of Mighty B will be airing on Nickelodeon soon! Pretty cool. I've never watched something I storyboarded on TV before. Once my episodes air, I'll be allowed to put up some drawings I did from the show. So come back soon!

Petting Zoo Comic

I finished it early! That means I do studio work all day tomorrow. AND I learned that it takes about 5 times longer for me to color in Photoshop than it does in Flash or with marker. No more Photoshop coloring until I learn how to do it the easy way.

Anyway this comic is a true story!

Em swears she didn't say "I'm not responsible for this!!!" but I totally remember hearing it, and since it's funny to me I kept it in. I'm sure she'll chew me out later.

If you enjoyed my insipid story, I have older posts with my high school friends as well!
Meet them here!

And here are some drawings I did right after the petting zoo incident took place.

And here’s a comic about a dream I had with some of my HS buddies.

Some more fun: here is the photo taken of Em, 6 seconds before she got yelled at and fell off of the poo barrel. I wish I'd taken one of the aftermath, but I was pretty flustered.

Don't kill me, highschool friends!!

I'm tired...goodnight!

Cave Stupids

50 years ago I wanted to do a comic with cave-girls, but never really got around to it, other than doing silly character sketches. I like coming up with designs but then I don't do much with them.

The idea was called "Cave Stupids" and was going to be exactly how it sounds- stupid prehistoric people doing stupid stuff. Since lately I have my job and Skadi as priorities, and then 2 personal projects I'm trying to keep quiet on the side, I thought I'd at least do some redesigns for fun since I want to have something to post here. Here they are! New cave-stupids for you!

The girl above is named Yark (duh). I'm not sure about her, I suppose she's the sexy one? I don't know, can you have a horizontally oblong head and still be sexy? Or have grey skin and be cute? I don't know!

Meet Miak. She also lives in a cave and is also stupid!

I imagine this one is some sort of medicine (wo)man. I gotta come up with some guy characters too- so far the sketches all look like a weird Captain Caveman. Euuurrrghghghghg!

OK now for some last minute weirdstuff, here are some original drawings I did from '03 or '04, I'm not sure.

OLD DRAWINGS ALERT!!!!!!!
(I don't want anyone thinking these are modern >__<; )

I think Skadi's design evolved out of this redhead girl.

I like these but they're kind of generic or something. I prefer marker coloring still, but when you're confined to the computer all the time, real coloring and drawing becomes a luxury!

This green-haired girl's attitude reminds me of Skadi, too.

Actually I kind of like this one! I wish I had a bone guitar.

Ok that's it for old and new Cave Stupids! I hope you like them! Maybe if I get a break sometime I'll do some little mini-comics? I don't know, will there ever be time?? *sob*

2009 NIGHTMARE THEATRE

For some reason I have this problem- when I go home to see family in Tahoe, where it is beautiful, and I feel happy and contented, and am surrounded by beauty, I ALWAYS have weird dreams and nightmares while I am sleeping there.

So of course I had one this Christmas when I was visiting! This retarded and frightening dream took place in 1998 or so, hence the highschool version of me, which is smaller and cuter than the one that exists today. I know there are people out there who HATE dream stories (hi Luke), but I like hearing other people's as well as talking about my own, so here is one for you! You're getting veeeeeerrrrrrrrry sleepy...............

(check out that retarded arm on Kathryn- hooray for failing at drawing fundamentals!)

...and that's when I woke up.
Drawing "scary" is really not something I'm very good at, so I cheated and added some photoshop spooky blobs and crap to the drawings of the little dead schoolgirls. I didn't draw it, but I want to add that as well as the first group of dead girls that came off the bus, there was also a group of about 5 short little dead chola girls who showed up. Maybe I'll draw them sometime.

Ok that's it!
More people should draw their dream stories!

**UPDATE**
For those who haven't been checking up on Dumm Comics, Skadi is now battling sexy one-boobied Amazons!

Resolutions and first drawings of 2009

**Update!**

Luke and I just introduced a new character for Skadi on Dumm Comics- Princess Boudica, arch-nemesis to Skadi!! Go check her out, and read a little about her in the news post there!

Anyhow, happy 2009! Here's a fresh 2009 doodle!

This year had better be good. I made some resolutions, although I'll probably go back and edit these as I come up with better ways to improve myself (I stole this idea from Steve Lambe).

RESOLUTIONS

1. Get better at drawing
2. Dispel the rumor that I dated John K (been with Luke almost 8 years now, no room to date ex-bosses- stop emailing me about this please! T___T )
3. Be more positive about living in disgusting Los Angeles (or maybe make progress towards getting out of this horrible city)
4. Be more positive in general
5. Eat more green stuff (like mint chip ice cream)
6. Be less nervous around people I perceive as more sophisticated than myself
7. Experiment more with painting and animation
8. Get going on the "personal projects" I am always talking about
9. Spend more time with hobbies besides drawing, like dancing or voice lessons
10. Get better at returning phone calls and emails

Ok, enough serious stuff...here are some pictures

I'm starting the new year by drawing with pencils! It sounds stupid, but after drawing with pens for so long, pencils feel great and new and fresh.

I always color the ones I like, but Luke always likes the ones I'm not so crazy about! Weird...actually, sometimes I get more comments on drawings I think will be boring to people.

I like the one on the right

I like the girl on the top, Luke likes the other one. Of course! :)

What do you think?

Anyhow, I hope 2009 starts out great for everyone, and stays that way. It seems a lot of people had a weird 2008...screw 2008! 2009 is the year for wonderful things!!!!!!!! Right?? RIGHT???!?!?!

Even more foodles

I was surprised and happy that people seemed to like my last post with untidy doodles, so here are some more! Drawing is starting to become fun again.

These ones are influenced by the illustrations in Japanese fashion magazines:
It must be a fun job doing that kind of thing. The magazines I was looking at have so many different artists and styles, they don't stick to one look.

(P.S. Sorry Sean, I stole your fabric pattern that you came up with for Through The Port Hole! Forgive me.)

I really like these hillbillly drawings a lot, even though a lot of people might see them as too scribbly.
Some day when I start seriously on doing my hillbilly cartoon, I'd like it to be more loose and retarded like these drawings. They should all be cute but inbred, right?? I think so!
Maybe I'm weird but I find the occasional wall-eyed person to be very beautiful!

Here is a drawing of a girl I am myspace friends with, her name is Brie:
This girl is very cute and takes a lot of funny photos, so she's fun to draw. Her friends are cute too! This next one is not flattering, both girls are much prettier than my doodle.
Brie is also a fantastic artist, her drawings are loaded with personality and specific ideas and funny stuff. When I was her age I was doing boring anime copies, nothing so original! Go look at her gallery, you won't be disapointed. She did some hilarious Flapjack drawings!

Ok more brainless doodles:
That's it! By the way I want say thanks to the people who are still coming to my blog, it's been up a while now and I'm still posting the same kinds of things, so it's nice to know there are people who will stick around.

Also, I'm going on a mini vacation to see a highschool pal get hitched, I might not be around to moderate my comments too often!
