Freaks, geeks, and wizards

Sorry if you guys are getting sick of my sketchbook stuff! I'm hoping to post a better variety of stuff soon. U__U

For now, here's some fan art from one of my favorite shows ever, "Freaks and Geeks," and some super scribbly doodles done while watching the latest Harry Potter movie. I'll start with the F&G drawings to avoid turning off the less-nerdy readers here! :)

Kim Kelley is one of my favorite characters in this show! She's badass.

Some more Kims, a few weird Sams, and some unknown slack jawed female. I wanted to draw more of the guy characters from the show, but EVERY character has giant lips, and lips are the hardest things for me to draw on guys. It's just a weird thing, I gotta figure out how to do it.

Millie! I love Millie. That's all for Freaks and Geeks, at least for now.

Nerd-alert!! Nerd-alert!!

Luna, some Ginnys, a few Rons, and Hermione. Its harder to get good likenesses when you're watching a movie and the scenes go by fast, but I think you get weirder/funnier results.

Super simple Ginny

A bunch of Rons, a super lame Dumbledore, some Slughorns (I love that guy), the super hot black girl from the beginning of HP 6, a lovestruck Lavender, a teenage Tom Riddle, a stressed out Malfoy, and some weird Potters.

more Ron, Ginny, Malfoy, and Hermione. I wanted to draw Snape, but he's just to wonderful/hard to do justice.

That's all for now! Thanks for bearing with me! (^u^)/

cats and dragons

It's 4 in the morning but I can't sleep, so I'm making a blog post.

Did you guys see "How to Train Your Dragon"? I really liked it. I'm partial to anything with Norse mythology, but the reason I liked this movie was because it was very sweet and straightforward. No obnoxious pop culture references...way less snarky dialogue than your average CG movie...also, it's fun to watch just for the pretty designs and colors. I'm too tired to write a whole review, so here is some fan art:

It's amazing I've drawn anything at all in the last few weeks. The only time I have time to draw is when I'm eating.

I should add that this movie had really funny/cute hair and boot designs. I feel a bit like a kid again lately. I went a long time without truly enjoying feature animation...but watching this movie, UP, and Fantastic Mr. Fox were all real fun for me. Actually I cried all the way through UP, but at least it got an emotional response.

I also liked HTTYD because the main dragon looks like BabyCat.

Lately I don't leave my house much because of work and other crap, so the cats have been a constant source of amusement. Here are some more Babycat and Luna drawings. They make a lot of weird faces. Luna's face seems to change constantly.

Here's Luna and Baby wearing cat-body-suits. I'd never actually wish an outfit this awful on an animal, but the idea is funny.

One more weird drawing that doesn't look like I drew it

Yarrr...I'm sleepy finally. Ok I'm gonna go to bed and proofread later

even MORE Galactically Hot Women of Star Trek

Maybe eventually I will give every girl in this Flickr group a post-it drawing of her own...

Hot Klingon lady

This one is cute but a bit funny in the face. :)

I kinda want to compile these into one thing.

To make this I had to eliminate 2 drawings, which is too bad, but they were pretty wonky. Should I pretty this up and make it a print to sell? Speaking of which, thanks to everyone who's bought a print. I know now is a terrible time to buy art (or anything for that matter), so I really appreciate it!

I'm sleepy! I hope you like these. Goodnight!

Pink things, plus actual art

Lately I'm tired of my own drawings. Drawing is still fun, but I'm ready for some change. I've been kind of trying to break out of my normal drawing habits, but it's not easy.

I like doodling with pens that are super fine right now. I skip over attempting any sort of construction or planning and just draw straight ahead. The drawings come out wonky and maybe a bit cold, like the two above, but I like them.

Those two aren't anything new at all, just my same stuff as usual. I think they're kind of cute though.

Some more extra tiny Luna Lovegood doodles! She's so cute.

Ok!! So here is the exciting stuff! I just reread Chris Blain's "Gus and his Gang", and I want to share it with anyone who hasn't seen it yet. These drawings are so beautiful.

Sorry about the lousy scans!

It's probably obvious, but the comic is about cowboy outlaws and their various adventures with crime and women.

Soooo good. I wish so bad I could draw this cool.

I like to hope that eventually I'll start picking up some influence from these comics. I don't like trying to force myself into other drawing styles that I'm not that familiar with though. I mean, it's one thing to push yourself in a new direction and try new things, but trying too hard to purposefully emulate another artist never feels right to me (unless it's just for practice or studying or something). Looking at these, I'm both really excited by the drawings, but also defeated feeling.

Maybe later on I'll post some more about cool comics I like right now, if people like these. There's a lot though.

BONUS PINK! I love this design! I wish I made it up, but I didn't. She's from this other amazing comic, which I'm pretty sure is called "Tete Noire." Go buy it, and get "Gus and His Gang" too! And all the other stuff by those artists! :)

Ok, back to work!

Miss Pas Touche

I can't write too much tonight cause I gotta get back to work, but I wanted to post some of the "Miss Pas Touche" fan art I did a couple weeks ago when I bought the comics. I am totally crazy about these books. The story is a murder mystery that takes place in a 1930's brothel. I was able to understand the story pretty well even though it was in French, but there is also a translated version you can find on Amazon. Here is the second book (I think two are available now, and I've heard of a third one coming out):

I am so envious of artists who can make books like this. It'd be my dream job to do this kind of thing. I hope I get the time someday to learn about storytelling and comic making.

OK anyhow, here's some fan doodles!

The main character, Blanche, is really really fun to draw. She's very cute but a bit neurotic and shrill. Her little friend Annette is fun to draw too, but I can't get her body type quite right.

I got artsy fartsy and drew these on some left over tissue paper.

More post-its!! My new favorite canvas.

That's all for now. Nothing too sparkly or shiny. I've been working a lot, and I've run out of old doodles to post, so I'm not sure when the next time I'll get to draw is. :( Hopefully I'll be able to post more about the cool comics I'm into soon, and share some more fan art and doodles.

Thanks for coming back guys!
