Freaks, geeks, and wizards

Sorry if you guys are getting sick of my sketchbook stuff! I'm hoping to post a better variety of stuff soon. U__U

For now, here's some fan art from one of my favorite shows ever, "Freaks and Geeks," and some super scribbly doodles done while watching the latest Harry Potter movie. I'll start with the F&G drawings to avoid turning off the less-nerdy readers here! :)

Kim Kelley is one of my favorite characters in this show! She's badass.

Some more Kims, a few weird Sams, and some unknown slack jawed female. I wanted to draw more of the guy characters from the show, but EVERY character has giant lips, and lips are the hardest things for me to draw on guys. It's just a weird thing, I gotta figure out how to do it.

Millie! I love Millie. That's all for Freaks and Geeks, at least for now.

Nerd-alert!! Nerd-alert!!

Luna, some Ginnys, a few Rons, and Hermione. Its harder to get good likenesses when you're watching a movie and the scenes go by fast, but I think you get weirder/funnier results.

Super simple Ginny

A bunch of Rons, a super lame Dumbledore, some Slughorns (I love that guy), the super hot black girl from the beginning of HP 6, a lovestruck Lavender, a teenage Tom Riddle, a stressed out Malfoy, and some weird Potters.

more Ron, Ginny, Malfoy, and Hermione. I wanted to draw Snape, but he's just to wonderful/hard to do justice.

That's all for now! Thanks for bearing with me! (^u^)/

Nerding out with Harry Potter Post-its

I was hoping my next post would be all the drawings I did that were inspired by my North Carolina vacation, but I'm not ready for that yet. There's a lot to organize, and right now the only drawings I did are so rough and weird that I don't think anyone would be able to tell what they were. SO!! Instead, here are some HP post-its from before I left LA.

Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasely)

Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood)

Emma Watson (Hermione Granger...holy crap, this girl's likeness is hard to get!!)

Jessie Cave (Lavender Brown)

Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix Lestrange)

(not looking so healthy today)

I drew a whole bunch more Bonnies too. I'm not sure I really got her look down, but I like these anyhow. It took a while for me to warm up to her in the role of Ginny, but I think she's really interesting now. She definitely has a pretty and unconventional look that is hard (but fun) to draw.

Check out how pretty it was in North Carolina...this was taken from the car, as the sun was setting and all the light was shining on the leaves. So nice!

See ya later...

P.S. Expect more HP crap once the DVD is out! Sorry for non-nerd readers out there! >__<;

Pink things, plus actual art

Lately I'm tired of my own drawings. Drawing is still fun, but I'm ready for some change. I've been kind of trying to break out of my normal drawing habits, but it's not easy.

I like doodling with pens that are super fine right now. I skip over attempting any sort of construction or planning and just draw straight ahead. The drawings come out wonky and maybe a bit cold, like the two above, but I like them.

Those two aren't anything new at all, just my same stuff as usual. I think they're kind of cute though.

Some more extra tiny Luna Lovegood doodles! She's so cute.

Ok!! So here is the exciting stuff! I just reread Chris Blain's "Gus and his Gang", and I want to share it with anyone who hasn't seen it yet. These drawings are so beautiful.

Sorry about the lousy scans!

It's probably obvious, but the comic is about cowboy outlaws and their various adventures with crime and women.

Soooo good. I wish so bad I could draw this cool.

I like to hope that eventually I'll start picking up some influence from these comics. I don't like trying to force myself into other drawing styles that I'm not that familiar with though. I mean, it's one thing to push yourself in a new direction and try new things, but trying too hard to purposefully emulate another artist never feels right to me (unless it's just for practice or studying or something). Looking at these, I'm both really excited by the drawings, but also defeated feeling.

Maybe later on I'll post some more about cool comics I like right now, if people like these. There's a lot though.

BONUS PINK! I love this design! I wish I made it up, but I didn't. She's from this other amazing comic, which I'm pretty sure is called "Tete Noire." Go buy it, and get "Gus and His Gang" too! And all the other stuff by those artists! :)

Ok, back to work!

Happy times with Luna and Ricky

I have two little friends at home now- Ricky, and now Baby Luna.

Luna, (aka Squeak, aka the Demon Fox, aka Fartbomb), and her brother Ricky (aka Dragon Face, aka Little Fish, aka BabyCat). I was worried about bringing a new kitten into the house since I know how territorial cats can be, but it only took a couple days for them to accept one another. Luna is super little though, so she has to live in the kitchen when we aren't home to supervise their playing together. Even though kittens are fun, I want her to grow up a little bigger soon so she can play with Ricky a little more!

What kind of animal is this?? Kitten? Fox? Squirrel? She has a funny look, this one. She's very pretty, but sometimes she looks like other animals. Ricky has the same trait- sometimes he looks like a werewolf, sometimes a bat...right now he looks like a seal pup.

Luke and I decided to name her Luna after a fictional character that I really like, although there are other reasons "Luna" is a good name for her...it's a pretty name, there's the cute kitty from Sailor Moon named Luna, and also, her little grey crescent shaped head looks like the moon. But here is the Luna she's named after:

I hope there's pudding...

Not a very good likeness, but Luna Lovegood is hard to draw! If you aren't a Harry Potter nerd like me, you won't know who I'm talking about. Luna is a lovely character. She's an oddball loner type who is happy to be the way she is, regardless of what others think. In the movies, she's played by Evanna Lynch, who does a wonderful job playing her.

She has a really wonderful dreamy personality. Her sort of weird but pleasant nature reminds me of my own Luna, who is curled up on my desk as I write this. In a little while she'll wake up and make some tribble noises until I pat her between her too far apart ears.

These are the first Luna sketches...her face is really hard to capture! Has anyone else out there tried to draw her?

I love at the end of the 5th movie when she gets all beat up. She's so pale though...the blood looks creepy! I didn't really get this look right either. Sometimes I have to do like 50 drawings before I can sort of figure out how to draw someone.

Some more weird kitty doodles. I gotta practice drawing animals more.

Something dumb!

I'll end this with cuteness...Luna and her funny little squirrel knuckles:

P.S. Things are really happy right now. I'm hoping to get lots of drawings done soon, so come back soon! :)

P.P.S. Luke says I should include this photoshop doodle, even though it looks weird.

Harry Potter girls (some of them)

I really love the actresses in this movie! I think my favorite new addition is Clemence Poesy, who plays Fleur.
This girl is so pretty! She is REALLY hard to draw, though...at least for me. Looking at her on the TV, her face totally stands out as being beautiful and possessing very interesting features. But when I drew the shape of her nose and the expressions she had, the drawings didn't turn out very cute...even though she looked pretty on the screen. I almost wanted to just exaggerate her obviously pretty features, like her eyes and headshape, and tone down the uniqueness of her other features, but it seemed like cheating. If she looks pretty in person with those proportions, then why shouldn't I be able to translate it into a cartoony drawing? Well, I failed this time, but I will try again.
Katie Leung, the actress who plays Cho, was the opposite of Clemence! Her features are very soft and round, and her face is so obviously cute that it was hard to make the drawing not look generic.
Emma Watson (Hermione) is another tough one! I guess it's dumb to say that...all these girls are hard for me to draw. Most of them were hard enough that I don't have any pictures to post here! Anyhow, part of what makes Emma unique looking is how three dimentional her face is. I couldn't for the life of me draw her face straight on. There must be some secret to drawing how a forehead or nose protrudes from straight on. Maybe it's just a mastery of construction and perspective. Anyhow, it's over my head so I'll have to stick with 3/4 views for now. I haven't given up yet though...I had to return "Ghostworld" to Hollywood Video, so I lied when I said I'd draw those two again...but I will be back with more Harry Potter girls! This is gonna haunt me!
Oh yeah, here's one more...IMDB won't tell me what her real name is, but she plays one of the Patil twins. Not much of a likeness, sorry!
