Feral forest girls

It's taken me a long time to update! I've been going through some pretty drastic life changes, so I haven't had much time to draw or be on the internet. Finding inspiration is a little difficult right now, so here are some sketchbook drawings from the beautiful and teeny leather bound journal that Brandy got me from the renaissance faire.

I mentioned this interesting journal earlier- the paper in it is so nice...the way my normal markers and pens react to it are surprising and different, and fun to play with.

This whole book is reserved for feral forest girl types. :)

I drew this one at the Huntington Gardens with friend Christine. That place is nice for drawing.

Puppy fat.

Here's a photo of my pretty journal:

A girl and a creature. The pose of the girl is inspired by a 70's photo of my pretty mom .

This last one is my favorite! I'm hoping to post more soon. I'm in a pretty bad rut again, but hopefully it'll go away soon. Hope everyone had a fun 4th! ^u^

I wish I was in a pretty and dark forest

I've been drawing a lot of forest girl-types lately.

I want to do a Skadi story that has a forest girl character...here are some sketchbook pages with doodles, trying to figure out a design.

I like the idea of her having nothing on except a poncho and legwarmers made out of moss, or something...

I think I kind of have a good idea for a story. I'll have to rework her design so she works in Skadi-land though, eventually.

I like this face and giant leaf hat!

One more...

Hey thanks for all the nice comments about my Conan drawings! I'm hoping to try my hand at drawing more men characters soon. And I know I keep saying it, but the "behind the scenes" Skadi post is coming. ^u^

Flailblog

New sketchbook drawings...this one is my favorite:

I've hardly been drawing at all lately, which is really weird for me. I find doodling as fun and relaxing as taking a long bath or having a good nap, so I feel weird and bad when I go a long time without drawing.

Bzzt bzzt bzzt.
I draw sloppily when I am in a strange mood

The weird thing is, I felt happier finally getting some drawings done, but at the same time I feel bad because I want to do less sketchbook drawings and more productive drawings- like on my comics and stuff. Hopefully if I continue drawing and posting less frequently, it'll be because I'm spending more time doing actual projects.

RAR RAR I was mad and tired when I drew this:

Something I'll never finish- drawings of Genie, a really beautiful little girl with a terrible history. She's one of the more well-known "feral children." Her story is interesting, but don't look her up unless you can handle a really tragic story. I was going to try to render these with pencil but I kept getting sad trying to work on it.

These are happier! Bzzt bzzt

Lastly, some snippets of drawings from secret projects.

I'll post the real things eventually. Happy to you! (^o^)/

Sketchbook and art show

I am sick and goofy on DayQuil. I wanted to do a mini-comic about this weeks hair salon disaster, but I'm already distracted, so here's some random sketchbook stuff instead.

This background makes no sense, but I like the weird girl!

Some weird animal drawings...

Also! There is an art show opening this Friday that I have a painting in. I'm hoping to make it, but I'm not sure if I'll be contagious then or not. We'll see! Here is more information:

Here's how my painting looks framed and sitting up on my mantle...I made a blog post with details here if you want to see it closer!

Thanks for reading, stay healthy and don't let sick people cough on you! I've been trying some new things lately when drawing, so let me know what you think.

I'm sleepy! -__-

It's holiday time!!

I love winter, gift giving, cold weather, warm coats, snow...this time of December is a guaranteed happy time for me because I go to the mountains to see family. I hope it is happy for everyone else this year too!

I don't know if I'll be able to post again before the new year, so if not, I want to be cheesy and say THANK YOU to everyone who has ever given up 5 seconds of their lives to look at this blog and say something nice to me, and THANK YOU to all the amazing artists, young and old, who have been kicking ass and feeding candy to my eyes all year 'round. Also, thanks to everyone who supported my etsy store!

Winter time elf friends

I have been in a weird mood lately, hence random doodles like this one. Luke thinks we should put this elfy ice queen in a Skadi story. What do you think?

I'm feeling silly today, so here is something extra stupid for you.

The doodles above are idea sketches for a future (maybe) Skadi story, and some super dumb Luna and Baby Cat "observations."

Also, here is one of my characters, Everlovin', hanging out with some fox guy. Expect to see more of her in the new year!

Have a nice holiday, everyone! (UuU)

P.S. In case anyone is curious as the where the last two blog posts went- I deleted them since there is no longer any original art left on my Etsy, so there was no need to be plugging them.

Weird drawings of disheveled pretties

****EDIT!****

For some reason, my latest blog posts are screwed up, and you weren't able to click the photos to see the drawing bigger, which is retarded. I'm not sure why that happened, since I uploaded the drawings the same way I always do. I fixed the ones on this post, anyhow...back to the post:

Drawing has been fun the last week or so. I've been able to actually think about all the comics and projects I want to do, and make some progress on them. Usually I get overwhelmed with the feeling I'll fail at trying new things on my own, but recently I haven't really cared about that and have just been drawing because it's fun.

These drawings are of my friend Kathryn, who I went to Highschool with.

I'll probably limit how much stuff I post from the comic I'm working on, at least until I make more progress on it, but here are some doodles of me trying to figure out a simple design for a wild, child-of-nature sort of girl. The first ones are wimpy but I like some of the later ones.

I should add that there's a heavy Shane Glines and Christophe Blain influence here!

I kind of want her to look as though she's thrown off her dress and is running around in a slip.

These ones above are super weird!!

I kinda like her with the crazy hair...what do you guys think?

Here's another doodle page.

I liked how this one came out:

I've been drawing from lots of old photos, and at the early part of the century, it seemed a lot of people had the same eye problem as this little girl. I didn't think it took away from her cuteness, but added a weird sadness (seriousness? I'm not good with words).

Ok!! Besides new drawing, I have some neat stuff to announce.

1. I'll be putting up a new print, and maybe some new original art for sale on my Etsy store soon!

2. Dumm Comics is undergoing a big change...Ricky is now doing Nightmare Theater 3 times a week! His comic is amazing, and everyone should bow down and be grateful that he's taking the time to entertain everyone 3 times as much. Also, the new schedule means that Skadi has been moved to Thursday, instead of Wednesday.

3. GO FOR THE GOLD 3 is ready to order! GFTG3 is a big anthology of sketches from various artists, and I am happy to say I am a part of it! There's some stuff in there I haven't posted, so please take a look! The list of wonderful artists who contributed is long, so click the link to the Meathaus site and check them out yourself!

Seeya around!

Cat doodles, NC photos

This month has been pretty crappy for me, but things are looking up, so I hope to post some stuff I can be proud of soon. I sort of hate blogging photos on an art blog...originally I wanted to post more drawings to go with the photos, but they're all over the place right now. This trip was pretty amazing, especially for a west coast girl. I was in awe of all the colors. I really miss being in nature, and the beauty of North Carolina and the Appalachian mountains really inspired me to work on my other projects.

I had an urge to sing a really loud Roscoe Holcomb song off this cliff, but I was too busy trying to not pee myself.

the view from up there

beautiful trees

look at these colors...

...and these!!

new home

Sandra said it looks like I'm standing by a giant bird.
UuU

This made me so happy. I wish the sign said something better though.

actual happiness

Ok...here's one of my favorite parts from the trip...it took all day, and was well hidden, but we managed to find Tom Dooley's grave!

The little off-road path leading to Tom Dooley's grave

There is a whole story about how we found this. More on that later! And oh, if you only know the story of Tom Dooley from the Kingston Trio, I say you give Grayson and Whitter's version a try...I think it's better.

Also, I know some know-it-all is gonna tell me it was "Tom Dula" and not "Tom Dooley," but most people know him by the name "Dooley" first.

A wooly worm! We saw a lot of these guys. I wanted to go to the Wooly Worm Festival, but we missed it.

in the forest, we found a weeny waterfall

We went in a cave and found a little bat. He was no bigger than a chicken nugget.

We also visited "Mystery Hill," which is kind of like a roadside attraction with hillbillies.

OK!!!!! Are you ready for the scariest thing you will ever see in your life??? Courtesy of Mystery Hill, which I don't believe has been tended to since 1960 or so.

YAAAARRRGH!!! So creepy!!

extra creep

Pretty. This is actually in Pennsylvania, though. I have more graveyard photos that are really cool, but I wasn't sure I should post them here.

If you want more beautiful photos of North Carolina and Pennsylvania, I've got a whole mess of them on my Flickr.

Here are some wimpy tree "studies" from the trip. I'm gonna draw some landscapes and nature stuff for real, soon.

Coming soon!!

CATS (the frame is photoshopped >__<)

and HILLBILLY GIRLS

Come back soon!
