Damn, I meant to post these on Halloween, but I missed my chance. Anyhow, these are some drawings done while watching "Let The Right One In". If you haven't seen it, go watch it! It's on Netflix instant. I don't want to say too much about the movie, but it's sweet and creepy and very pretty.
I love Oskar.

While drawing these, I realized there was something off about the paper in my sketchbook...the ink kept smearing all over, and the ink from the markers didn't quite sink into the paper the way it usually does. I'm using the exact same brand of sketchbook as I always do, and can't see any differences, but the paper is definitely not as nice. Anyone experienced that before? Weird.
Eli is harder to draw. The actress who plays her is very pretty, but all her facial features are large and prominent and hard to draw right.
I like Eli's weird clothes, too.
That's about it for now. I'm on my lunch break now so I gotta get back to work. I'm hoping to rewatch this again sometime and do some more drawings when work isn't so crazy.
Thanks for visiting my blog! (^u^)/
I'm not tired of drawing girls yet, but I really want to start doing real projects on my own- comics, shorts, whatever...and to tell the kind of stories I'd like to tell I can't just draw girls all the time (most the time maybe, but not all the time). SO! Anyhow I found an amazing book filled with mugshots of old criminals from the early part of the century, and it really inspired me to try drawing some menfolk for a change!
I don't like that these are so realistic (compared to how I normally like to draw), but it really felt like I was 15 again trying to learn to draw. I've never been comfortable caricaturing something I don't understand, and man faces are a mystery to me, hence the weird shading and stuff.
P.S. This drawing is flat I've been concentrating on drawing girls since I was a teenager...I started off drawing realistic and lovingly rendered drawings of Bjork and such, and as I got older added more and more girl shapes to the library in my head. Now drawing girls is something I do out of comfort, it makes me happy and calm! However...drawing men is like drawing in the dark. I don't have a library of man shapes. I can't make them up because I don't understand them yet.
P.S. It's hard to figure out unique eye shapes when in profile, at least for me These ones above were from my first attempt. I was proud at first but now they look weird to me. OH!!! Also, these are all profile drawings for a reason- profiles are easier to understand and draw (at least for me)!!! The shapes all come clear- how long a nose sticks out, how deep the eyes are sunken into the face, the shape of the chin. Of course you can make out most of those in a front view, but it's much harder to draw the volumes. Unless of course you're Jim Smith or something and can draw anything! I did some front views...they will not be shown here today!>__<;
These ones above are my favorites that I did!! Oh, and as you can see I reverted and had to draw a lady mugshot. Hooray for short attention spans!!
A scary man who's likeness I didn't do justice at all...and a horrible drawing of a beat up lady that I got tried of drawing and didn't finish.LASTLY!
Here are some shitty drawings done while eating dinner. I'm not sure these drawings were worth all the words I typed out. Actually I'm positive they're not- but it's good to try something new for a change! Thanks for looking!
OH ALSO
Here are two etsy stores you ought to visit! They will cleanse your eyes with nice colors and pretty pictures. If you like drawings of girls and interesting things, then you will like these!

Sorry, this one's not for sale, I bought it already :P
Thanks pals!!
So my job lately has been working at Nickelodeon, on the show "El Tigre: the Adventures of Manny Rivera," which was created by my pals Jorge Gutierrez and Sandra Equihua (congrats on your Annie awards, you guys!).So far I've done storyboard revisions, specialty poses, animation layout, and even a couple title cards. I'd like to post some of my layout and animation, but all the episodes I've worked on haven't aired, so I could get in trouble for posting them.INSTEAD! Here are some specialty poses!OH!!! And don't forget, ALL these poses are based off of funny and original storyboard drawings done by these guys:Luke CormicanRicky GardunoFred GonzalesBrandon KruseFred OsmondGabe SwarrSean SzelesDave ThomasEddie Trigueros

Rodolfo/White Pantera is actually my favorite to draw!

And of course, all these designs shown here were designed by Jorge and Sandra (duh)!

I have always been obsessed with Hillbillies and southern culture! Something about it is fascinating as well as disturbing and scary. I love the myths, the look, the architecture, and especially the music.

The drawings of the men and animals are a bit feeble but as you guys probably know, I'm not real comfortable drawing things besides girls. But if I'm gonna do a hillbilly project one day, I can't just draw girls! I have a million ideas that I want to do. Maybe I'll post them soon and get your guys' opinions!
Other great hillbilly things that I love: Banjos, the Carter Family, murder ballads, the Blue Fugates of Kentucky, the word "Appalachia," coal miners, scary Jesus songs, fiddles, that weird kid from 'Deliverance', moonshine...the list goes on and on!
Good books and websites with stories and info on Appalachian culture are somewhat hard to find. Anyone know any good ones? This one is really cool: http://www.hillbillysavants.org/
Oh yeah, I have Rex Hackelberg to thank for these new doodles...I was looking at his site a lot that day and was super inspired to draw animals and funny weirdos. Thanks Rex! I had a momentary break from my awful rut!
I'd love to go on a tour of the Appalachian mountains someday, but I'm too chicken to really do it. Probably most of it is too modernized to be fun anymore, and if I go digging around in the woods I might get eaten by hillbilly cannibals or something.
P.S.Speaking of hillbillies...Kali and I are planning on making our very own country/rock 'n roll CD soon! Kali is a really good guitar player, and we both love singing old songs so it'll be fun. Once in a while you gotta try doing new things instead of what yer used to! Anyhow, some rough doodles I did of Kali and I singing in different country styles:
We will probably end up putting up songs online, if anyone would actually like to hear!
I'm sure Kali will say more on the matter at some point- she's the one who knows more about this stuff!
