Neato! My art is in a book...

Take a look! I did a pin up for Craig Yoe's new Jetta book (Craig Yoe is the guy who brought us the Arf Museum art books, as well as the Milt Gross book everyone is raving about). I haven't gotten my copy of the book yet, but I've had a chance to see what's inside, and it looks amazing. In case you don't know about Jetta already, it's a Dan DeCarlo comic about a super cute spacegirl. Here's my pin up...

...and here's the cover of the book. If you want to see more from the book, this blog has tons of art and info!

There's tons of comics in it, as well as some extra Dan DeCarlo art, and lots of beautiful pin ups from guest artists. There were a lot I really loved, so it was hard to choose just a few to show off here, but here are a few of my favorites:

Here's a couple of close ups from my submission...

These were drawn in my favorite way to draw- straight pen to paper, then loose marker coloring over it. Then I scanned in the individual poses and arranged them in Photoshop, adding tons of weird effects to it.

Shake yer space booty...arrg...I lost the sketchbook that has the originals for these, and the color comps. If I find it I'll post those too!

Thanks for taking a look! Go get this book, it's a must for anyone who likes cute space chicks and funny comics!

P.S. Upcoming posts include "how we make Skadi" and weird man drawings! For all you guys out there who get on my back for not drawing men, I DO draw them, I'm just not proud of them. But I'll post them just for you. Harrumph!

Thanks for reading! (^u^)/

Battlestar Galactica poster!

As a fan of the new Battlestar Galactica, I was excited when Jason Anders of the Fulle Circle Productions blog asked me to do an illustration of two of the actresses in the show. He recently interviewed Katee Sackhoff and Nicki Clyne, so that's the two of them there in the drawing below as their BSG characters, Starbuck and Cally.

I did some quick and dirty sketches of the girls before I tried simplifying their looks for the poster:

Katee...

...and Nicki

Also, if you like it, you can get a 11 x 17 poster of it from Jason's
Fulle Circle Store!

And now it's time to take a break from everything! Hopefully I'll have some new drawings to post after I visit family and spend some much-needed time with friends this week, so come back soon! (^u^)/

Weird drawings of disheveled pretties

****EDIT!****

For some reason, my latest blog posts are screwed up, and you weren't able to click the photos to see the drawing bigger, which is retarded. I'm not sure why that happened, since I uploaded the drawings the same way I always do. I fixed the ones on this post, anyhow...back to the post:

Drawing has been fun the last week or so. I've been able to actually think about all the comics and projects I want to do, and make some progress on them. Usually I get overwhelmed with the feeling I'll fail at trying new things on my own, but recently I haven't really cared about that and have just been drawing because it's fun.

These drawings are of my friend Kathryn, who I went to Highschool with.

I'll probably limit how much stuff I post from the comic I'm working on, at least until I make more progress on it, but here are some doodles of me trying to figure out a simple design for a wild, child-of-nature sort of girl. The first ones are wimpy but I like some of the later ones.

I should add that there's a heavy Shane Glines and Christophe Blain influence here!

I kind of want her to look as though she's thrown off her dress and is running around in a slip.

These ones above are super weird!!

I kinda like her with the crazy hair...what do you guys think?

Here's another doodle page.

I liked how this one came out:

I've been drawing from lots of old photos, and at the early part of the century, it seemed a lot of people had the same eye problem as this little girl. I didn't think it took away from her cuteness, but added a weird sadness (seriousness? I'm not good with words).

Ok!! Besides new drawing, I have some neat stuff to announce.

1. I'll be putting up a new print, and maybe some new original art for sale on my Etsy store soon!

2. Dumm Comics is undergoing a big change...Ricky is now doing Nightmare Theater 3 times a week! His comic is amazing, and everyone should bow down and be grateful that he's taking the time to entertain everyone 3 times as much. Also, the new schedule means that Skadi has been moved to Thursday, instead of Wednesday.

3. GO FOR THE GOLD 3 is ready to order! GFTG3 is a big anthology of sketches from various artists, and I am happy to say I am a part of it! There's some stuff in there I haven't posted, so please take a look! The list of wonderful artists who contributed is long, so click the link to the Meathaus site and check them out yourself!

Seeya around!

Hillbilly post-its

I've been working on a personal project in my spare time for a while now...I'm not that far into it, but I'm really really excited about the idea. It'll be a long time before it's finished, but in the meantime, here are some doodles of the main characters:

These are all done with my current favorite art supplies, post-its, ball point pen, and dried out highlighters. Sometimes the funnest drawing utensils can be found on a regular old work desk. :)

I like these, I hope you will too. I always like my doodly wonky stuff more than the drawings I labor over. :)

That's all for now, at least regarding my new pet project! I wonder if their personalities show through in these.

And in case you missed it over the holiday weekend, I have another print for sale:

Pretty girls of Star Trek TOS, all arranged together on 11 x 14 quality cardstock, just for you! I'm very happy with how these turned out, so please take a look at my Etsy Store!

Thanks everyone!

more stuuuuuuuuufffffff

This isn't a new drawing, but it IS an old drawing that I did new things to!

I'm really happy with how this turned out...It's up for grabs at Etsy. This thing was fun to make. It has real screentone and everything!

I put up some other stuff on Etsy, too. I like this drawing, even though it's got funny wonky stuff going on.

This weird experimental drawing is there too:

The inks I put up are gone now, but there are more on the way! I think I'm gonna have two more batches, then I'll have run out of my older inks.

I know all this business crap is getting boring. But I'm gonna post fun stuff soon, I promise!! Also, some people asked questions on my last post, and I will respond tomorrow, when I'm less tired!

Thanks eveyrone!!

Updates!

I'm really excited! Two weeks from now, May 6th, the first of me and Luke's new 6-part Skadi story goes up on Dumm Comics. Here's a quick sneak-peek:

The reason I'm excited is because while our last longer Skadi story (The Red Menace) was almost entirely Luke's idea, this new one is one of mine. I tried a lot of new things that I'm not very used to, but I hope you guys will enjoy it all the same! I'll be back in May to talk more about it!

ALSO!!!

Skadi prints are selling fast! Click here to see!

I was really sort of surprised to see how nice the prints came out, and how they were recieved...so I'm going to do a couple non-Skadi ones, and see if they sell.

SO!!! I need some opinions from people on what kind of things they would like to see printed up all purdy. I grabbed a few that I thought might look nice as prints, but I dunno really yet. What would you guys want to see made into prints?

P.S. I'm working on one print idea that is coming out pretty cool...I got the idea from Jesse, who suggested selling some post-it doodles a couple posts ago! I'll put it up when its done and see what other people think!

The times they are a-changing

***UPDATE!!***

Skadi prints are now for sale at my Etsy shop! 50 matte-finish, 11 x 17 cardstock prints featuring Skadi displaying her usual barbarism! Luke and I are signing and numbering them each. Go check it out! Other prints, as well as more inks will be for sale shortly!

This print is a splash page from one of our 5-part Skadi stories, called "The Red Menace." To see the story, click HERE!

OK back to the original post...

Well, the economy sucks, jobs are getting scarcer, and while I'm lucky to have one, who knows where I might end up when this season on "Mighty B" ends. It's a time to start SAVING UP! And that means digging up old art and making new pictures to sell!!

Funnily enough, it's always at times of economic panic and personal stress that the desire to take on huge, unrealistic side-projects comes about...the kinds of projects that take up your free time, push you to your limits, shake your confidence, and require more than a little personal funding.

SO ANYHOW!!! I need to save up money, so please visit my store!

I'm selling some framed stuff for once! I really like how this turned out...it was a pain in the butt process...I inked the drawing in Flash, then printed it out, marker colored it, cut it out (that was the 'pain in the butt' part), mounted it on patterned paper, then went back and inked over it to make it pretty. They turned out nice though, you really can't tell they were cut out very well at all.

Here's a scan that's easier to see:

This one is the same process:

If these manage to sell, I'll be making lots more- they're really fun!

Here's a marker doodle that's been floating around in my house for a while now, it's time it went to a better home! Don't you wish you had those socks? I'm pretty sure they don't exist, surely buying this drawing is the next best thing (har har har).

I've got 30 or so inks from 2002-2003 that I'm selling, but I'm only selling a few at first (gotta see how Etsy works first). Most of them will be in the $15-30 range. I never intended for people to see these inks, as they were done somewhat haphazardly for a sketchbook I wanted to produce with a coworker, so some of them have white out or small smudges. Nothing too noticeable, but I don't want to disappoint any potential buyers.

Ok!! Thanks for looking, sorry there's not much that's new, other than the very first drawing.

My store address is easy to remember! www.funnycute.etsy.com

There's a link to it on my sidebar now, so you can check for updates anytime (hint hint).
